Well Sweetness and I had our appointment this morning with Dr. Robin (our RE) to discuss what could have gone wrong with our IVF cycle and why we did not get pregnant. She said there are 3 possible options from what she can see: 1-my transfer was extremely difficult, took over an hour to get the catheter in to transfer the embryos 2- could have been a chromosomal abnormality in the embryos and 3- I could be one of the rare cases of women that make antibodies that attack the embryos. Of the three scenarios, she said she is almost certain that it was the transfer. I can not convey to you how bad, how difficult the transfer was. She said the great thing about this problem is that it is easily fixed, because it should not be a problem with a frozen transfer. This is because my ovaries are back down to normal size now from the stimming medications, which is why they were so large, causing my uterus to arc up at 90 degrees so she could not get the catheter in. Hope that makes sense??!!
So she said that we could do IUI cycles, or go ahead and do a frozen transfer. Sweetness and I discussed our options and we have decided to tentatively go through the FET (frozen embryo transfer) in mid to late October. So I will start BCPs soon and get my uterus ready to try again.
I asked her what she thought the infertility problem was with us, because we have been placed in that awful "unidentified infertility" category. She said based on what we have seen thus far, I have a low ovarian reserve. Meaning I do not have many eggs. So it is hit or miss whether I ovulate any given month. Great! So we have decided to go ahead with the last 2 tests of the infertility workup: the HSG to look at my tubes, and the post-coital test to check and see if I am hostile to sweetness' sperm. So those tests are scheduled for Thursday (all at one time) and I should know the results that Day. And just to cover everything they have drawn blood for an "Implantation Failure Panel" to check for the antibodies that attack embryos.
Sweetness and I both feel encouraged after today. Dr Robin is sooo sweet, and she was so sorry we did not get pregnant. We are all trusting the Lord, and I think it is important to not forget that God can make ANYTHING happen, despite any circumstance if He wills it. So we are excited and looking forward to this new adventure. Please continue to pray for us, we feel them surrounding us, and we know the Lord hears each one! Will keep you updated!
Ending with a scripture we all know:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.
